How to Profit from the US Debt Limit
Once again, the US government will have to decide if the country is heading toward its first default in history or if it should raise the debt ceiling to avoid the entire country going bankrupt.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the US has a debt limit. The debt limit is the total amount of money the US government is authorized to borrow to fulfill its existing legal obligations, including Social Security and Medicare benefits, military salaries, interest on the national debt, tax refunds, and other payments.
Some of you may be surprised to read that definition. You may wonder why the US government borrows money to fulfill its obligations. Or why it's using debt to finance Social Security and Medicare? Or perhaps you were confused as to why the government needs to borrow money to pay interest on money that the government borrowed previously?
These are valid questions.
The truth may make you uncomfortable, but you must understand it: the US government is broke.
Literally, it doesn't necessarily have the money to run the government each year, so it's forced to borrow money. A simple way to understand what's happening is to use a private organization as an example instead of thinking of a national government.
Let's call our private organization Bad Management Inc for fun.
Bad Management Inc has found itself in a very uncomfortable position. Every year, for a decade, it's continued to earn more top-line revenue from customers and partners, but the losses each year are getting worse. No matter what Bad Management Inc does, it seems it can't reach a break-even point.
But Bad Management Inc needs to pay the bills. So years ago, it started borrowing money to help offset the difference between revenue and expenses. At first, Bad Management Inc only needed to borrow small amounts of money. Unfortunately, it couldn't figure out how to pay those initial loans, so it started getting bigger and bigger loans. These new loans were used not only to pay the annual difference in revenue and expenses but the new burdens were also used to pay off previous loans and their interest payments.
Eventually, Bad Management Inc found itself in an enormous, horrible, and almost impossible situation. It went from owing millions of dollars to owing billions of dollars to now owing trillions of dollars. And the only way to pay the interest on past debt is to borrow even more money today.
This has allowed assets like Bitcoin with a limited supply to reach a market cap close to half a trillion (and counting) while the US government continues to struggle with its debt.
Are you struggling with the emotional rollercoaster of Buy and Hold with Bitcoin? Picture this: you became a millionaire with Bitcoin in November 2021, only to find out a year later that you've lost 700k. How would you feel?
My next strategy eliminates this volatility and allows you to buy back in at key moments.
